The Story

6b, Charles Edition One of 25 copies printed on vellum, signed by the artist . A facsimile of the original manuscript by the Manchester artist and calligrapher Alan Lansdown Atbor (1883-1957)1916 First Edition

Description

A Christmas Carol (1916), issued in an exceptionally limited edition of just 25 copies printed on vellum, is a highly prized fine-press rendering of Charles Dickens’s beloved holiday classic. This special printing elevates the timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge—his haunting encounters with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come, and his ultimate transformation from miser to benefactor—through luxurious materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Vellum copies of this era were typically produced for collectors, featuring superior typography, careful illustration, and often hand-bound finishes that highlight the artistry of early 20th-century private presses. The combination of Dickens’s enduring narrative and the rarity of this vellum issue makes the 1916 edition a remarkable and sought-after example of fine bookmaking.

Notes

A rare copy of 25 printed, Tabor wrote the entire text of Dickens' classic tale by hand and decorated it with medieval style illustrations.  In 1916 George Harrap produced this facsimile in various forms, the most desirable and limited of which, is this vellum edition, signed by Alan Tabor on the limitation page. Some foxing throughout , intact, very fine condition.
