The Cooperstown printing of the Bible refers to the 1828 King James Version (KJV) published by H. & E. Phinney in Cooperstown, New York. This edition was printed in quarto format and was widely distributed in the northeastern United States. It was a standard American KJV of the time, faithful to the original 1611 translation, and designed for general use by families, churches, and individuals. Its availability in America made it an accessible Bible for English-speaking communities, including the growing populations of New England and New York, without relying on imported copies from Europe.

For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the 1828 Cooperstown Bible is especially significant because it is the exact edition that Joseph Smith studied and used when producing the Joseph Smith Translation (JST) of the Bible. Oliver Cowdery purchased a copy for him in 1829, and Smith used it as the textual base for his inspired revisions, clarifications, and additions to Scripture between 1830 and 1833. Description

Printed in Cooperstown New York. Brown leather with embossing. Lots of scuffing and wear to leather boards, head and foot of spine, and corners. Intact. Very browned/foxed pages. Damaged family record pages, torn and two loose. Many pages where ephemera or foliage such as pressed flowers or clovers and loosely inserted and one instance where a small piece of cloth is attached to a page corner with a nail. Good condition.
