The Story

5e Framed Art Print 12x18 canvas giclee Painted by Matthew David Grant 2024-

Without Baptismal Font

In 1877, Wilford Woodruff, then President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recorded a remarkable spiritual experience at the St. George Temple in Utah, where he described a vision of “eminent men and women” from history appearing to him. These figures, including many of the Founding Fathers of the United States, literary figures like Jane Austen, and other notable historical personalities, expressed their desire for temple ordinances to be performed on their behalf, a key practice in LDS belief concerning salvation for the dead. Woodruff documented this vision in his journals, listing about 100 such individuals—both men and women—whose names he arranged to have proxy ordinances done for in the temple. This event holds great significance in LDS history as a powerful affirmation of the church’s work in connecting past generations to eternal spiritual blessings.

Between the St. George Temple and the Endowment House 180 eminent men and women's temple work were done. Out of those men and women Reid Moon has chosen his favorites to be painted into this picture.

Catherine Maria Sedgwick, Mary Sommerville, Letita McLean, Marie Antoinette, Elizabeth Fry, Napoleon III, Benjamin Franklin, John Wesley, George Washington, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Wilford Woodruff, Sir Walter Scott, Abraham Lincoln, Amerigo Vespucci, Martha Washington, LOrd Byron, Charlotte Corday, Jane Austen, Edmund Burke, Charlotte Bronte, Frances Locke Osgood

Framed prints made from the originals. One being painted in 2024 and one in 2008. Outside measurement framed is 20x26.  Inside measurement 12x18.
