The Story

6b Hubert Howe Bancroft, History of Utah, 1890, from the library of Gordon B. Hinkley

Notes

The History of Utah by Hubert Howe Bancroft, published in 1890, is part of his extensive series on the American West. The book details Utah’s early history, including the arrival of Mormon pioneers, conflicts with Native Americans, and tensions with the U.S. government over polygamy and statehood. Though criticized for relying on secondary sources and reflecting 19th-century biases, it remains a valuable resource for understanding Utah’s formative years and the influence of the LDS Church.

Description

Ochre vellum boards with dark brown spine and corners. Fading gilt lettering on the spine. Creasing to the spine on the front and back. Fading of color to upper and lower spine, bumping to the corners, minor scuffs on the back board and small black mark on the back board as well. Several signatures are coming loose throughout. Including a letter thanking Gordon B. Hinkley for the book. Fine condition overall.
