This work traces the evolution of the Dracula myth from its historical origins in Vlad the Impaler, through Stoker’s novel, to the 20th century film adaptations. it’s performance in the title role of Dracula in the six serials that followed is widely regarded as the definitive screen portrayal of the Count. As J. Gordon Milton observes, “The movement of Hammer Films into the horror market has become one of the most famous stories in motion picture history.” (p. 350).
The inscription in on the front free endpaper and reads: “To Christopher — Many thanks for a fine introduction & for presenting the screen’s finest Dracula portrayals. Good luck in your future career. Best always, Don Glut, May 19, 1975.” Lee contributors to the introduction of this book and is depicted on the front cover.
