Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens

Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens was originally part of J. M. Barrie’s 1902 novel The Little White Bird, but it later became a standalone children’s book. The story presents a very young Peter Pan—only a week old—who flies out of his nursery window and returns to Kensington Gardens, where he lives among fairies, birds, and magical creatures. The edition retold by May Byron is an abridged adaptation created specifically for younger readers. May Byron simplified Barrie’s language while retaining the charm of the original story, and the book was published in London by Hodder & Stoughton. While Arthur Rackham first illustrated Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens in 1906, the May Byron retelling with his illustrations came later.
