The Story

6C by H.A. Rey and Margaret Rey. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1993. signed by Margaret Rey

 Notes

"Curious George" is a beloved children's book character created by H.A. Rey and Margret Rey. George is a mischievous and adventurous little monkey who always finds himself in amusing predicaments due to his insatiable curiosity. Whether he's exploring the jungle, visiting the zoo, or causing chaos in the city, George's escapades captivate young readers with his boundless energy and knack for getting into trouble. Despite his antics, George's good heart and loyal friendships often lead to happy endings, making him a timeless icon in children's literature

Margaret Rey (1906–1996) was the co-creator of Curious George, the beloved children’s book character she developed with her husband, H. A. Rey. Originally conceived in Paris in the late 1930s, Curious George debuted in Curious George(1941), published after the couple fled Nazi-occupied France carrying their drawings with them. Margaret played a crucial role in shaping the stories, pacing, and visual clarity of the books, as well as advocating for George’s curious, mischievous, but ultimately kind-hearted personality. Although her contributions were long overshadowed by her husband’s name, Margaret Rey was instrumental in transforming Curious George into a timeless figure of children’s literature, balancing gentle humor with an understanding of childhood curiosity and learning.
