Madelineās Rescue is a sequel to Madeline in which the fearless little girl falls into the Seine while walking along the river in Paris. She is saved by a brave dog named Genevieve, who pulls her to safety and becomes a hero. Madeline recovers quickly, as always, and Genevieve is welcomed into the boarding school, eventually becoming a beloved companion to the girls. Told in the same rhyming style and charming illustrations as the original book, the story emphasizes bravery, kindness, and the joy of friendship, and it won the Caldecott Medal in 1954.
